From the Greenpages comes an entertaining little collection of companies and products whose owners have clearly decided that "green" is just a label you slap on your stuff so people will buy it, like "low carb" or "as seen on Oprah."  These five "winners" are especially clueless, citing their "disposable" shopping bags, "recyclable" office paper, and "CFC-free" appliances.

James Hansen, a climate modeller with Nasa argues that corporate lobbying is undermining the democratic response to climate change.

From The Guardian report:

Speaking on the eve of joining a protest against the headquarters of power firm E.ON in Coventry, Hansen said: "The first action that people should take is to use the democratic process. What is frustrating people, me included, is that democratic action affects elections but what we get then from political leaders is greenwash.

"The democratic process is supposed to be one person one vote, but it turns out that money is talking louder than the votes. So, I'm not surprised that people are getting frustrated. I think that peaceful demonstration is not out of order, because we're running out of time."

Hansen said he was taking part in the Coventry demonstration tomorrow because he wants a worldwide moratorium on new coal power stations. E.ON wants to build such a station at Kingsnorth in Kent,

It seems like a simple question, given the weight of scientific evidence that identifies fossil fuel as a major culprit in greenhouse gas omissions.

Is burning coal causing global warming?

Speaking as the spokesman for the coal industry, Joe Lucas' answer was clear: "I don’t know, I’m not a scientist."

It appears that the coal industry would prefer to stay in the tall grass of philosophical arguments about the nature of knowledge, than to address the real problem of how to reduce CO2 emissions in a substantial way.

Doesn't exactly lend much credence ot their advocacy of "clean" coal.
