According to Discipline for Justice: "The most effective thing that North American Christians can do to work for peace and social justice is to examine and modify their own personal lifestyles."
Their latest blog, entitled "Yet another MasterCard commercial I'd like to see," examines the imbalance and injustice of the current economic system's priorities:
"As of March 2, amount spent by the US government on the bailout of failing financial corporations:
$2.1 trillion
Cost to give every US household a $500 voucher each month for an entire year to be spent on rent, mortgage, home improvements, furniture, property taxes, etc:
$696 billion
Total cost of the recently passed stimulus package:
$787 billion
Cost to give every American a $50 voucher for food each month for an entire year:
$180 billion
Total value of bonuses given on Wall Street in 2008:
$18 billion
Cost to give every American child under 18 a $200 voucher for preventative health care:
$14.4 billion
Estimated final cost of the financial bailouts:
$9 trillion
Amount of time for which all three voucher programs could be funded with that $9 trillion:
10 years (with $100 billion left over)
Realizing that we can help those who are hurting, reward those who have made good decisions, and stimulate the economy all at the same time:
Priceless"
Priceless, indeed.

Interesting that a republican administration was the one to do it in the past!
