The corporate behemoth known as Walt Disney Co has announced new goals for ultimately reducing their carbon footprint to zero, as well as taking other ambitious measures: Reuters: "x The Walt Disney Co said on Monday that it planned to cut carbon emissions from fuels by half by 2012, and ultimately to achieve net zero direct greenhouse gas emissions at its office and retail complexes, theme parks and cruise lines.

Disney also set a long-term goal to cut to zero the amount of waste it sends to landfills -- which totaled nearly 300,000 tons in 2006, much of it from construction, through diverting some to recycling centers, composting and buying more post-consumer recycled materials.

The company pledged to reduce water use as well as emissions and waste associated with the manufacture, transport, use and disposal of Disney products."

If the company actually carries out these plans, we shall applaud it. Then maybe we can tackle other questions, such as that of the use chain of its ever-expanding branded (plastic, landfill-destined) consumer goods. Or the everlasting Disney mind print on our youngest consumers, er, people, as it continually, "innovatively" finds new products to brand, like Disney Eggs [http://tinyurl.com/ckuk6c] for crying out loud. Or Disney's relentless "princessification" and sexualization [http://tinyurl.com/d3cvda] of the world's little girls.
