Coke has published its carbon footprint through the UK-based Carbon Trust. In the process, it opens a new conversation, led by carbon-footprint pioneer Innocent Smoothies, about the beverage industry: are all soft drinks created equal? Should Innocent, the first drinks to publish their carbon footprint, be held to the same carbon standard as Coke, when one product is made of fruit and one of water and sugar? Do nutritious products have a right to use more carbon than ones made of empty calories? Should future nutrition guidelines include a "carbon calorie" guideline for every person?
