A Gartner analyst calls the breach at Heartland Payment Systems, the largest ever. The company handles 100 million transactions monthly.
A pattern was referred last fall to the company by major credit card companies.
Some may find it odd that the announcement came out yesterday when all attention was on the inauguration.
The NYT story (linked) suggests 600 million cardholders handled by this company were vulnerable, which is almost 3 times the population of the USA.
